Founded by magnetic coffee-monger Jeff Fischer in 2011, Lux Central “is a coffeeshop approached as a bar,” according to manager and bartender Sammy Black.
In 2020, Fischer and his team expanded this idea and transformed a cavernous room in the back of the Uptown building into a cocktail bar branded as the Lux Salon. Black describes it as an intimate, engaging space that encourages socializing. “If you want to read a book, that’s fine, but I’d rather you catch up with your best friend,” Black says.
The Lux Salon is now a thriving third space that serves craft cocktails and a daily rotating punch, the recipe of which is at the whim of Black and his talented team of bartenders. Sourced and styled by Fischer himself, it’s also an interior designer’s dreamscape.

- Hanging Lamps
Made to resemble molten glass, British designer Tom Dixon’s dynamic lighting fixtures float above the bar, eliciting a vibrant and vaguely psychedelic vibe. - Wall Art
This serene ocean scene painted by local artist Randy Slack was commissioned to add a sense of escapism. - Bar Top
Patrons often compare the commanding wooden bar to the sloping edges of a skateboard ramp. - Chairs
Look closely and you’ll notice a single canary yellow seat among its inky-hued counterparts bordering the bar. This was an intentional design decision to “offset the flow” of the space and incorporate subtle, unexpected elements. - Glassware
These Iittala drinking glasses are a testament to the Lux Central team’s attention to detail and focus on the finer things. “We want to make sure you’re enjoying the nicest things… in a beautiful atmosphere,” Black says.
