Instead of writing about all these new beers last week, the beer blog worked on drinking most of ‘em with friends in the mountains of Eastern Arizona. We’re back and still thirsty for new finds from our favorite local breweries. Here are 12 new beers around the Valley to sample this weekend. Cheers and drink responsibly.
An IPA series release from Tombstone is one of our favorite things to see on the timeline. Earlier in the week, we came across these video game nostalgia–inspired brews named UpDownUpDown IPA, LeftRightLeftRight DIPA and BAStart Triple IPA. Snag the trio and fire up the old school Nintendo. Tombstone also has a new West Coast Amarillo Pale Ale available. Sounds like a fantastic mixed four-pack to us.
There’s no disguising our love for West Coast–style IPAs, and Huss brings this new one to the table by brewing it with a liquid hop extract instead of the usual small green conical flower we’re accustomed to. According to Yakima Valley Hops, an extract gives the brew a highly concentrated flavor, maximizes brewing efficiency and reduces loss in the production cycle. This 6.8% ABV IPA is worth stopping by for an experimental taste or two. You know, for science.
Wilderness takes its flagship Refuge IPA and adds some honey, caramel malt and dry-hopped citrusy hops to create a souped up Imperial variant. If coffee is more your thing, snag the new Peixoto Coffee collaboration of Arizona Wilderness’ popular Superstition Coffee Stout. Both new beers release Thursday, July 22 on draft and in cans at both locations.
We like the humble nature of the name, but don’t be fooled because Front Pourch cranks out delicious brews as often as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. This Mexican style lager is sure to hit nicely on this warm summer weekend at a cool 5.2% ABV.
This Mexican lager style is pretty popular this week and Goldwater is throwing its sombrero into the ring with the re-release of Chida Vida. Releases Friday, July 23 at noon on draft and in cans.
A gluten reduced beer is not easy to find at a brewery. Dark Sky Brewing in Flagstaff does it fairly regularly and now Greenwood is joining the fray with its new release, Golden. The first keg tapped last weekend and it’s waiting for you to pull up a barstool at this spot along Roosevelt Row.
This west coast IPA is only available on draft at Simple Machine Brewing in North Phoenix, with a limited amount of four-packs to go.
In the mood for something darker and stronger this weekend? Head over to enjoy the patio at Fate and lift a glass of this 9% ABV smoky porter with hints of chocolate and cherries.
Explode into the weekend with a big ripping 8.9% ABV double West Coast IPA up north. Dark Sky’s latest release is loaded with the C hops (Chinook, Citra, Columbus) meant to destroy your taste buds – in a good way. Check it out on draft.
