“Repeated praise from fellow photographers and art directors led me to Camerawerks just over five years ago and we have been collaborating on a variety of projects ever since,” says PHOENIX magazine art director, Mirelle Inglefield. “This year, the fearful COVID-19 invoked concerns for everybody, yet because of Jason and Jon’s flexibility and stringent CDC-compliant measures, we were able to safely carry out portraits for the entire PHOENIX magazine Great 48 cover story, which was produced largely during the Arizona statewide shutdown.” This year marks the third year that Camerawerks has photographed PHOENIX magazine’s Great 48 honorees.
“It’s always fun shooting this [Great 48] project. We meet so many interesting people and get to learn about the great things everyone is up to,” says Camerawerks photographer
Jon Balinkie.
“During this Covid-19 pandemic we have all been dealing with, I thought our photography could help get the word out about these special people and the amazing work they are doing in our community.” says Camerawerks photographer Jason Grubb.
During their 25-year partnership, Jason and Jon have a set deep roots in the downtown Phoenix arts community, hosting long-running art shows and events, while fine-tuning their expertise in many photography styles including commercial, product, e-commerce, lifestyle and editorial. Their solid reputation has garnered relationships with several local brands including Arizona Community Foundation, Forever Living Products, Gold Canyon Candle Co., Central Life Sciences, Fender Musical Instruments, Leslie Pool Supplies and SkyMall. They are no strangers to famous faces having photographed many of the Valley’s cream of the crop including the iconic jazz vocalist Dennis Rowland and rock legend, D.J., and all around good Samaritan, Alice Cooper.
