Downtown Phoenix got its first full-service grocery store several weeks ago when Fry’s Food Store opened on First and Washington streets. The highly anticipated store boasts an innovative urban design and cutting-edge technology, along with all the amenities of a typical Fry’s including online ordering and pick-up, made-to-order sushi, a deli, a bakery and a pharmacy.

But the state-of-the-art store isn’t the only new development for Downtown denizens. In fact, Fry’s is just the first phase of a multi-stage project by commercial real estate company RED Development.

“With the first phase of construction completed, we’re honored to further our commitment to Downtown Phoenix by bringing the first full-service grocery store to the area that is the most innovative grocery concept in the state,” says RED managing partner Mike Ebert.

The second phase of the mixed-use destination, dubbed Block 23, is a 330-residence apartment complex called The Ryan. The luxury community will offer a rooftop pool deck with lounge seating, grilling stations, firepits and panoramic views of Downtown. It will also feature a fitness center, a catering kitchen with a private dining area, a co-working area and a dog run and pet spa.

The final phase of Block 23 is a nine-story office tower with ground-floor retail and restaurant space, which will open later this year. RED also recently signed three new leases at neighboring entertainment district CityScape Phoenix: Dog Haus Biergarten, Pigtails Cocktail Bar and Nekter Juice Bar. Opening dates will be announced before 2020.

“As each phase opens at Block 23, we look forward to seeing the impact this destination will have on the community as we continue to attract the best local, regional and national tenants to improve the daily lives of those who live, work and play within this vibrant city,” Ebert says.
