Don’t let the snoozy title fool you – Inversion and the Perspective-Based Safety Culture (High Lonesome Publishing, $12.95) is actually an interesting read. Phoenix author Brian O. Owens drew from his experience as a combat engineer in the United States Army and his long career in risk management and occupational health and safety to write a conversational guide for companies to create safe and cohesive workplace cultures. He shakes up his staid topic with approachable storytelling, an art he learned from his beloved grandfathers, who worked physically demanding jobs as a farmer and truck driver and radiated wisdom despite their lack of formal education. Owens’ philosophy handily bridges the gap between “working class” and corporate worldviews with real-life experiences and a friendly tone. His book is an office manual you’ll enjoy reading.
