Bowls of Hope for West Valley Charities

On December 3, 2022 WHAM Art Association will be hosting its 8th Annual Bowls of Hope Charity Event. The event will occur at WHAM Community Art Center, 16560 N. Dysart Road, Surprise AZ 85378 on December 3, 2022, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM At this event WHAM will be selling handmade bowls to give funds to local food banks for people in need, and provides funds to a home for battered women, a shelter for victims of human trafficking and shelters for Veterans and Teens in the West Valley. The event will include an Artist’s Bazaar and also feature an exhibition in the Gallery by Ugandan Artist Brian Bugembe and an open call to Artists for their best Slice of Life: People at Work and Play. Brian Bugembe’s website is WHAM provides an annual “Bowls of Hope” event where handmade clay bowls are sold for $12 each during the holidays to make money to give to charity. This event gives to West Valley Charities such as: Eve’s Place, Valley Vista Food Bank, St. Mary’s Food Bank, StreetlightUSA; Teen Connection; Veteran’s homeless shelters. Wham gives so people in our community don’t go hungry! Connie Whitlock states that WHAM hopes to make $4,000 this year to divide up among 6 charities. Last year Covid limited attendance but WHAM was still able to give out $2,200. St Mary’s Food Bank Alliance reports that 1 in 5 Arizonans, 1 in 4 children, and 1 in 7 seniors live in poverty. WHAM is committed to giving back to the community and providing a service to help many in our community. Members of WHAM, a local non-profit art group, are busy getting ready for this special event. These volunteers are hand building, throwing clay on wheels and glazing food safe bowls that will be on display for this special event. Our goal is to have hundreds of bowls available for members of the community to select from. On the day of the event, for a $12 donation per bowl, the community will be able to choose from the many beautiful one of kind handmade bowls. Brian Bugembe is a young artist living in Kampala, Uganda. He graduated in 2011 from Naggenda International Academy of Art and Design with a focus in Fine Arts. He specializes in cultural paintings, African abstract art, beaded mosaics, and other handicrafts. WHAM Art Association (WHAM) is a community oriented 501 (c) (3) organization that is bringing the ARTS to people of all ages, race, abilities, and economic status in many of the West Valley Cities. WHAM‘s mission is to provide innovative, multidisciplinary, arts-inclusive programming, exhibits, and projects to the diverse communities we serve. As an organization, we are interested in enhancing economic development and artistic collaboration for our members, the community, and other organizations. WHAM Art Association is committed to support and promote art awareness and participation in the West Valley through exhibits, art walks, public art, festivals, art education and instructional art classes.
