After getting a one-month reprieve, Richard Hinojosa has closed his very popular CRUjiente Tacos due to a rent increase.
A rent increase has forced Desert Roots Kitchen in downtown Tempe to close, but it will reopen in a shared space with Tempe’s Rainbow Bliss Botanicals in June.
Gertrude’s Restaurant and Patio Café, a beloved fixture at the Desert Botanical Garden, have called it quits after 13 years. The operators, Hause Restaurant Group, has decided to focus solely on its catering business.
Hash Kitchen at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and Thompson Peak Parkway in North Scottsdale has closed, leaving six other Valley locations. New locations are also in the works.

Pita Jungle on University Drive in Tempe has closed after 31 years because the lease was ending.
Preston’s Steakhouse has closed after 10 years due to the expense of upcoming building repairs. A new location is in the works.
James Beard Award semifinalists Roberto Centeno, Armando Hernandez and Nadia Holguin have closed Santo Arcadia and its sister bar, Pecado. The trio are taking the summer off and looking for a smaller space for the restaurant. Santo Arcadia was a 2025 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best New Restaurant.
After 24 years, the Z’ Tejas in Chandler has closed, due to landlord lockout. The Scottsdale location remains open.
