These local spots have beaten the restaurant-survival odds to reach milestone anniversaries this year.
Pita Jungle
The first location of this Valleywide Mediterranean chain was opened in 1994 by Arizona State University engineering students Bassel Osmani, Fouad Khodr and Nelly Kohsok. It celebrates 30 years of hummus in 2024.
Spinato’s Pizzeria
Founded in 1974 by Ken and Elaine Spinato, this pizzeria hits the big 5-0. Despite its growth – six locations and status as the official pizza of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury – it’s still family-owned and -operated.
Miracle Mile Deli
Miracle Mile Deli has seemingly lived up to its name in the tough restaurant industry, reaching a milestone of 75 years. Second-generation owner George Garcia started as a busboy at age 15 (his son Josh, above, is now VP).
