“My intention for this book is to remind those who read it that we are all healers,” Felicia Cocotzin Ruiz writes in Earth Medicines: Ancestral Wisdom, Healing Recipes and Wellness Rituals from a Curandera (Roost Books, $24.95). Phoenix-based Cocotzin Ruiz is a practitioner of curanderismo, a traditional healing practice that incorporates elements of indigenous Mexican, Spanish, Moorish and West African medicine ways, but she’s also studied Indian ayurveda and yoga nidra, so her tome offers a panoply of modalities from around the world. Each chapter is dedicated to one element – water, earth, air and fire – and includes recipes and rituals to utilize said element for inner harmony, beauty and spiritual work, from mixing up botanical hydrating mists to creating ancestor altars.
