Kid-friendly and packed with lush desert vegetation, the Sweetwater Preserve in Tucson is a perfect choice for a family outing.

Getting There: Sweetwater Trailhead, 4001 N. Tortolita Road, Tucson. From Interstate 10 in Tucson, take the El Camino Del Cerro/Ruthrauff Road exit 252. Head right (west), go 2.6 miles to North Tortolita Road, turn left and continue 1 mile to the trailhead.

Length: 12.93 miles total.

Rating: easy-moderate

Kid Friendly: Yes

Pet Friendly: YES, dogs must be on leash and owners must pick up and pack out waste.

Elevation: 2,466-2,680 feet

Best Season: October-April

Hours: Dawn to dusk daily
