Restaurant Mexico, which has been a Mill Avenue mainstay for more than 40 years, is closing its doors on Thursday, August 15.
The Sonoran-style staple is owned by Carolina Chavarria, who at 83, is ready to retire from the restaurant business.
Restaurant Mexico has resided in four different locations around downtown Tempe since its inception in 1978, including Mill and University, Mill and Seventh Street, The Arches on University Drive and its current location at 423 S. Mill Avenue, which it has inhabited for the past 12 years.
With a robust menu boasting classic Mexican fare like quesadillas, nachos, sopes, tostadas and tacos, the Mexican eatery accrued many regulars over the past four decades, even throughout its many relocations.
The building now has new owners, but there is no information yet on what’s next for the space.
