What are the advantages of implants over dentures?
If you are needing to replace any or all of your teeth there is currently no better option than to use dental implants. They provide a stable and reliable foundation for whatever restoration you may need. In the case of a full denture, the stability and retention is based on a little suction and a lot of practice. However, with the aid of dental implants, a full denture can be stabilized and retained with much more security.
What are some of the latest trends in cosmetic dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry has made huge advancements in the last decade – mostly due to improved materials that weren’t available before, which also makes everyday dentistry look better. Patients are also becoming more educated about their options, [which makes it] easier to have a conversation where they understand their options and limitations… I’ve also seen a big increase in adult orthodontics, which is a treatment so many “older” patients have neglected to consider.

When it comes to veneers, do you counsel a straight line across the incisors, or slightly longer central incisors?
Although there is some science involved in achieving a “cosmetic” smile, everyone is unique. What may look good for one face shape doesn’t work for another. What is pleasing to one person may not be to another. I will say that varying tooth length from the centrals will usually give a more natural appearance.

Have you had any cosmetic dentistry yourself?
I have not at this point. I was lucky enough to have had good dental care in my youth, including orthodontics. However, as I’ve aged my teeth have as well. I’m just looking for the right dentist! Ha ha.

What are your hobbies and passions outside dentistry?
I love to be outside running, biking, hiking, waterskiing, golfing, etc. My passion is my wife and five kids. I love seeing them participate in basketball, swimming, cheerleading, horseback riding and gymnastics.

What’s the funniest thing a patient has said to you on nitrous oxide?
A woman a least 30 years older than me said I was her eye candy!
