Much like their customers, a few local shopping centers are in the market for new looks. This year, many of the Valley’s shopping destinations will be undergoing renovations – some major, some minor, but all with the intention of creating more user-friendly hot spots for retail therapy.

Arizona Center
Established: 1989
Location: 400 E. Van Buren St., Phoenix, arizonacenter.com
Nips and Tucks: Arizona Center’s once sleepy, nearly comatose Downtown space is about to become more open and energized with a façade facelift and fresh furnishings, including new shading, landscaping and lighting. The $25 million makeover will include the addition of a hotel and multi-family housing. The parking structure at Fifth and Fillmore streets will get an upgrade as well. Parallel Capital Partners’ goal is for the center to finally become interwoven into the fabric of the Downtown community.

Scottsdale Promenade

Nips and Tucks: Scottsdale Promenade will be welcoming new additions to its family of more than 60 shops and restaurants. Newcomers include Modern Market, Blaze Pizza, Pacific Dental, Verizon Wireless and more to be announced. To keep up with the younger crowd of buildings, the rest of the Promenade will get a fresh coat of paint. Lead architect Roxanna Kreisler says the goal is to modernize the look, but keep it within the tradition of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Desert Ridge Marketplace

Nips and Tucks: Desert Ridge is rolling out a $15 million revamp with the surrounding community in mind. To better engage residents and visitors, the shopping center is getting a new bocce ball court, an updated children’s play area and two new eye-catching LED video walls, along with a multitude of other aesthetic updates such as new turf, paint and seating.

Scottsdale Fashion Square

Nips and Tucks: Scottsdale Fashion Square is upping the luxury ante with a few major updates. The Neiman Marcus wing will be renovated to include a striking new two-story entrance. Other updates include a number of art installations, marble furnishings, a lush garden and a fountain the property manager hopes will have people pulling out their iPhone cameras and selfie sticks for photo ops. With its new amenities, including a private lounge, car service and personal style consultants, Fashion Square will provide customers with an even more luxe shopping experience than in its previous five decades.
