11 The Palace Prescott
You’ve heard of Prescott’s famed Whiskey Row, named for the rough-and-tough saloons that once dotted the block. But Montezuma Street – its actual name – also boasts a unique mix of shops. In 1900, the block was destroyed by a blaze, but patrons of The Palace – a watering hole frequented in the late 1870s by Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday – lovingly salvaged their ornate 1880s Brunswick Bar by carrying it across the street. It’s still in use today. The “Cornerstone of Whiskey Row,” Hotel St. Michael is within walking – or stumbling – distance.
Elevation: 5,400 feet
Directions: Take I-17 north and exit on Highway 69 north. Go about 30 miles and take the US 89 south ramp. Turn right onto East Gurley Street, take a slight right onto Sheldon Street, and turn left onto Montezuma Street.
Driving Time: 1 hour, 40 minutes (100 miles)
Hours: Varies along Whiskey Row. The Palace closes at 10 p.m. on weeknights and midnight on weekends.

12 Bikes, Bikes and More Bikes
Rye
If seeing your childhood Schwinn would bring tears to your eyes, then grab a hanky and go see Ron Adler (pictured right), owner of All Bikes in Rye, just south of Payson. “What color Schwinn? Pink with the butterflies and little daisies and a white wicker basket on it, or blue?” he’ll ask. He’s scary good, and he knows what’s where in the 3-acre junkyard of bikes and bike parts. “It looks like a mess, but it’s all in rows. There’s a fat-tire bike row, a thin-tire bike row, a Yamaha row, a Kawasaki row…. You want to see your first bike? I can show it to you.” He also assembles and ships special bike orders and carries an impressive array of tricycles and even Harleys.
Elevation: 4,982 feet
Directions: From Mesa, take Highway 87 north toward Payson. All Bikes is on the east side of Highway 87, 11 miles south of Payson.

Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday
