Why did you choose podiatry?
When I was in college in my pre-med courses, I had a foot problem that took me two and a half years to find someone specializing in feet to help me [with]. I have firsthand knowledge that when your feet hurt, you hurt all over.
What are the main things people should do to avoid foot problems?
Observe your feet on a daily basis and pay attention to any abnormalities such as redness, swelling, a sore that won’t heal and any new lumps or bumps. How often should a runner or hiker change his or her shoes?
Properly fitting shoes help stabilize your feet during physical, repetitive stress activities. When shoes become worn out and lose their integrity, it is much like the front wheels of your car going out of alignment. It creates stress within the joints and muscles in your feet and legs. Each foot has over 26 bones, 32 joints and over 100 muscles and ligaments. When something is out of alignment, your whole body feels it.
What distinguishes your practice from others?
During my 40 years of practice, I have learned to listen.
