Recipe Friday: True Food Kitchen's Yuzu Martini

If you’re a martini drinker, you probably have a preferred vodka or gin that seals the deal. But if you don’t, Jon Augustin, True Food Kitchen’s Director of Beverage, offers a martini recipe using a vodka you may not be familiar with: Prairie Organic Vodka from his home state of Minnesota.

“The vodka is distilled in Princeton, Minnesota, and all the corn they use to produce it is bought from family-run farms. And it’s organic," he says.

Other key ingredients are yuzu sake and elderflower, both available at Total Wine or Bevmo. Augustin cautions going easy on the elderflower. “It has a very floral scent, but can be overpowering,” he says.

This citrus heavy martini is currently on True Food Kitchen’s winter menu, but if customers respond well, it just might become a permanent fixture.

Yuzu Martini 

0.75 oz. lemon Juice
0.75 oz. simple syrup
1 oz. Joto Yuzu Sake
2 oz. Prairie Organic Vodka
Chili threads to garnish

1. Combine all ingredients in a tin and shake vigorously.
2. Double strain in a martini glass.
3. Spray twice with elderflower liqueur (using an atomizer)
4. Garnish with chili threads.
