GIVING IS NOT JUST ABOUT MAKING A DONATION. IT IS ABOUT MAKING A DIFFERENCE.
Arizona Gives Day is an annual giving movement uniting nonprofits, big and small, new and established, to celebrate and increase philanthropy in Arizona through online giving. The event helps raise awareness about the critical role Arizona nonprofits play in our communities and inspires people to give generously creating a thriving and stronger Arizona for all.
• Arizona Gives Day has raised over $13.4 million for nonprofits since 2013.
• Though Arizona Gives Day only happens once a year, Arizona Gives (AZGives.org) is available for year-round giving.
• Annually, Arizona nonprofits have an economic impact of $22.4 billion, more than 8 percent of Arizona's gross state product.
• Arizona Gives Day won PHOENIX magazine’s 2016 Best of the Valley: Best Way to Invest in Arizona
Arizona Gives Day is a 24-hour online fund-raising event on April 2, 2019 to celebrate philanthropy by benefiting local 501c3 nonprofit agencies serving communities across Arizona. Hosted by the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits and the Arizona Grantmakers Forum and presented by FirstBank, Arizona Gives Day has raised more than $13.4 million for nonprofit organizations to use since 2013. In 2018, $3.2 million was donated.
PHOENIX magazine is proud to support Arizona Gives Day and Arizona nonprofits by raising awareness about the critical role they play. Arizona Gives Day helps people find, learn about and contribute to the causes they believe in while enabling Arizona nonprofits to share their stories and engage the community though a unique online giving platform at azgives.org.
While giving generously is important every year, it is particularly vital this year. As the result of new tax laws, nonprofit organizations are experiencing a downward trend in donations. The laws remove the financial incentive for some people to donate because standard deductions have been doubled, significantly reducing the need to itemize tax returns. That means many people who would normally donate to a charity and receive a deduction may choose not to make a contribution at all for the first time this year.
A report by the Seidman Research Institute at the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University estimates that charitable giving could decline in our state by $272.7 million annually following introduction of the Tax Cuts and Job Act (TCJA) and could lead to a loss of more than 10,000 jobs.
THAT'S WHERE YOU COME IN.
Arizona nonprofits make a difference every day. Every single donated dollar helps struggling men, women and children who benefit from services, resources and advocacy that social service agencies provide. Donations also impact our quality of life through programs, exhibits, shows and educational opportunities offered by arts and cultural organizations. These examples only scratch the surface of the good work being done across the state.
At the same time, a recent study found that the state’s nonprofit sector contributes nearly $22.4 billion to Arizona’s economy each year and employs more than 324,000 people, generating at least $2.1 billion in payroll, annual sales and property taxes.
We invite you to read this special section to learn more about the charities that help our vibrant state thrive. Select a nonprofit that speaks to you at azgives.org and make a donation on April 2nd.
Arizona Animal Welfare League’s mission is to reduce the number of dogs and cats unnecessarily euthanized in our community. Our goal is to be the community’s leading source for pet adoptions, low-cost veterinary services, volunteer opportunities, humane education and expertise in animal welfare.
Altered Tails is the largest non-profit spay and neuter organization in Arizona and a leader in our community. We’re passionate about providing high-quality, affordable services for dogs and cats as a way to keep them healthy, in their homes and out of local shelters. We also provide low cost surgeries for local rescue and feral cat organizations to help them prepare their pets for adoption and humanely reduce the street cat population. Our two clinics in Phoenix and Mesa performed more than 18,000 surgeries in 2018. Since 2003, we’ve sterilized more than 200,000 dogs and cats.
The Garden’s commitment to the community is to advance excellence in education, research, exhibition and conservation of desert plants of the world with emphasis on the Sonoran Desert. We will ensure that the Garden is always a compelling attraction that brings to life the many wonders of the desert.
We are a natural history museum, zoo, aquarium, botanical garden, conservation center, and art institute. The mission of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is to inspire people to live in harmony with the natural world by fostering love, appreciation, and understanding of the Sonoran Desert.
