1. Off the Page with Wil Williams at Wasted Ink Zine Distro – June 13
Explore what you’re passionate about and how to translate that feeling into words on paper. Wil Williams, a local writer and Northern Arizona University alum, will be covering “persona pieces” and other introspective ways of composing. The workshop will be followed by an open mic available to anyone who would like to present their work. $5-10. You might not have read about Roland E. Hill in your history books, but he led a life that many, including the minds behind Unexpected Art Gallery, believe should be recognized. He was a World War I veteran, Parisian painter during the Roaring ‘20s and had a hand in the production process behind Disneyland by way of his friend, Walt Disney. Explore his colorful life through the exhibit and enjoy jazz performances as well as a rock set by the band Cavalier Street led by Hill’s grandson. Free. 7-10 p.m. Unexpected, 734 W. 3. Science with a Twist at Arizona Science Center – June 16
Who says science experiments are only for middle schoolers? The Arizona Science Center throws adults-only mini science camps the third Friday of each month. Stay hydrated with a Capri Sunburn, a kid-classic with an adult twist, while you watch watermelons explode and your favorite childhood cartoons deconstructed in the featured exhibition, Get Animated: Animation Academy. $12. 6-10 p.m. Arizona Science Center, 600 E. 4. DIY Punk Picnic at The Trunk Space – June 17
Folk-Punk Phoenix and The Trunk Space are coming together to bring the Valley a family-friendly evening full of music from Matt Pless, Dandelion Massacre, The Slow Prisoner and four local bands. Electric bands will be inside while the acoustic bands will be hanging out in the courtyard. $7. 6:30-11 p.m. The Trunk Space, 1124 N. 3rd St., Phoenix, thetrunkspace.com/calendar.

5. Record Store Crawl at record stores around the Valley – June 17
Audiophiles and vinyl enthusiasts will not want to miss this unique experience. Hang out with Jason DeVore from Authority Zero on the Record Store Crawl bus as you go from store to store in a bar crawl style. The ticket comes with a lunch and drink voucher for Yucca Tap Room, giveaways, swag bags and record store coupons.
