The back-to-school barrage has begun. In fact, some schools are already in session. Many organizations have held their back-to-school clothing and supplies drives, but if you would like to donate, here are some places that are still accepting donations.
Some of the organizations are also looking for volunteers to help distribute the supplies.
Dollar Tree Back-to-School Brigade
Several Valley locations, dollartree.com
Dollar Tree is partnering with Operation Homefront to provide school supplies for military members’ children. Purchase school supplies at any Dollar Tree and put them in the collection box located at the store. Operation Homefront will collect the items and distribute to Valley military families. The back-to-school drive runs through Aug. 11.
Jewish Family and Children’s Services
If you can’t purchase the items yourself, donate $50 and a child in need will receive a backpack filled with school supplies. You can also donate a $25 gift card to help clothe a foster teen.
Phoenix Rescue Mission
On Saturday, Aug. 6, the Phoenix Rescue Mission will give out backpacks filled with school supplies to more than 400 children – and it still needs donations. Visit the website for a list of supplies, which includes crayons, spiral notebooks, composition books and #2 pencils. Deliver your collected supplies to 1468 N. 26th Ave., Phoenix.
Through July 29, Salvation Army is collecting school supplies for underprivileged Valley youth through its Pack to School 2016 campaign. They need backpacks, calculators, colored markers, facial tissue, pens, blunt scissors and more. Call 602-267-4100 for drop-off locations.
Southwest Human Development
Southwest Human Development is partnering with the Arizona Republic and Famous Dave’s for the third Back to School Supply Drive through July 31. They hope to collect enough supplies to provide 500 families with back-to-school items for their children. Drop off supplies at any of Famous Dave’s locations:
