 If department store Christmas music is turning you into Scrooge, seek auditory solace at these high-quality holiday concerts.

The Phoenix Symphony
Conductor Lawrence Golan will load up the sleigh and serenade you into the season with Holiday Pops, a rousing collaboration between the Phoenix Symphony, Phoenix Symphony Chorus and Phoenix Boys Choir. Phoenix Children’s Chorus
Angelic children’s voices blended with the pure tones of flutes will make you forget “Grandma Got Run over by a Reindeer.” Young flautists from the Desert Echoes Flute Project will join the second through 12th graders as they perform their 25th Anniversary Holiday Concert. Arizona State University

The Phoenix Boys Choir
Boys’ choirs are a 700-year-old tradition, though this award-winning group has only been around since 1948. This year’s Holiday Traditions concert will take you on a choral journey with carols from around the world. Acclaimed local actor Mark Stoddard will accompany the choir with a reading of The Night before Christmas. December 12-20. Various Valley locations. Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix
Arizona’s longest continually performing choral organization has been conducting their Holiday Concert and touring worldwide for 81 years. That’s a lot of practice. Phoenix Chorale
In Home for the Holidays, the Grammy Award-winning Phoenix Chorale joins forces with the Sonoran Brass Quintet to perform classic sing-a-longs as well as compositions guaranteed never to be covered by Jessica Simpson and overplayed in department stores: composer-in-residence Ola Gjeilo’s “Alleluia” and “O Magnum Mysterium,” British composer Cecilia McDowall’s cantata “Christus Natus Est,” and Arvo Pärt’s “Seven Magnificat Antiphons.” December 18-22.
