Glass-blower extraordinaire

“It all started because I wanted to learn to blow glass. It looked like fun,” Newt Grover says.

That was 14 years ago. Since then, Grover’s glass-blowing repertoire has grown to include dazzling chandeliers and outrageous glass art at some of the finest restaurants in the Phoenix-metro area.

Recent commissions include Mastro’s Steakhouse, Suede Restaurant and Lounge, Axis-Radius, Wildflower Bread Company and Drinkwater’s City Hall Steakhouse. “That’s what happens when you play with fire,” he says, smiling.

Following a career as a master jeweler, Grover taught himself the art of neon and metalsmithing. “When I told my wife I was switching gears one more time and wanted to build a glass-blowing shop, she didn’t take it too well,” he recalls. “Now, we believe that every skill I’ve learned has led me to what I should be doing all along – glass blowing.”

Call Grover’s studio or visit newtglass.com to reserve tickets for a free glass-blowing demonstration. His work is also showcased at Scottsdale’s Gravity Gallery.
