Opened in 2007, this “destination” pet store run by longtime chef Martin Narvaez is an ode to his bull terrier, Kimba, who died of heat stroke while hiking the West Valley’s White Tank Mountains. Narvaez says his shop focuses on non-toxic, eco-friendly and all-natural pet products. Elk antler dental chews, anyone?

Originally from Wisconsin, this 23-year-old store was bought and moved to this renovated brick warehouse near State Route 51 and McDowell Road. It distributes goods to other pet-oriented businesses, but individuals can shop Costco-style using a 215-page catalog and enjoy wholesale prices with a $25 minimum purchase. Cameos of Bob, a 5-year-old Lhasa Apso who belongs to Ryan’s project manager Michelle Austin, anchor the catalog layout.
