Built in 1970, 64-acre Fountain Park includes an 18-hole disc golf course; 7,200 feet of lighted walkways; a playground; and a 29-acre, 100-million-gallon lake with a fountain that ejects water every 15 minutes (from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.) from a concrete water-lily sculpture. The fountain was built by town founder Robert P. McCulloch, who also founded Lake Havasu City and oversaw reconstruction of the London Bridge there. 12925 N. Fountain Hills Theater
Going strong for more than 20 years, this community theater offers a mélange of musicals, children’s plays, contemporary comedies and more. In August, the theater wraps up its production Unforgettable (through August 5), a tribute to classic crooners like Sammy Davis Jr. and Nat King Cole, and launches The Soul of Broadway (August 17-26), highlighting a trove of tunes from musicals like Porgy and Bess, Dreamgirls, The Wiz, and Hairspray. 11445 N. Owner Anthony Redendo proudly serves New York-style pizza (thin, hand-tossed crust; light on the sauce), but fills out his menu with calzones, subs, salads and pastas, like his heavier-than-thou Eggplant Parmigiana over spaghetti, and thick lasagna bolognese. Even the appetizers (garlic knots, hot wings, mozzarella sticks) come in hearty portions. 16948 E. Shea Blvd., 480-816-1356, redendos.com
