London Littles rain boots were made for monsoon walking.
Rain boots in the desert? It’s not so strange, says Gilbert entrepreneur Janssen Bradshaw, who in September 2017 launched London Littles, a line of patterned Wellington boots for toddlers and small children.
“Kids can put them on by themselves, and there’s no buckles or laces or Velcro,” Bradshaw says. “My kids wear them all year round, whether or not it’s raining. If they get muddy, or dirty or dusty, it just wipes right off. I think they’re the ultimate practical little kid shoe.”
Bradshaw, a former librarian, is mom to four girls ages 1-8 – “my own Little Women squad” – and blogs about family life and books at Everyday-Reading.com. She fell in love with rain boots after seeing an Instagram photo of a little girl wearing bright yellow Wellies.
“Rain boots are just this perfect canvas for beautiful, fun prints,” Bradshaw says. “There’s really nice, solid [color] rain boots and a lot of character rain boots [available commercially], but not beautiful, modern ones that I would actually want my children to wear on a daily basis.” So, she designed her own, with whimsical prints like polka dots, watercolor florals, ambling bears and soaring kites. They start at toddlers’ size 5 (ages 1-2) and go up to children’s size 3 (ages 8-10), ranging from $24.95-$34.95. Three new styles will debut this August.
As for the decidedly non-desert name? Bradshaw was inspired by her family’s stints living in London, “the ultimate beautiful rainy city,” and harkening back to their boots-clad British escapades.
“I love that feeling of being ready for adventure,” she says. “Whether that’s tiny little family adventures to the park across the street or traveling across the world.”
