Meet Me Downtown – And Work Up a Sweat

Blue Hound Kitchen & CocktailsIf you want to get a different look at Downtown Phoenix, check out Meet Me Downtown, a free weekly 3- to 5-mile walk/run that takes participants from the CityScape development and winds through the city center, showcasing points of interest along the way. Register from 5:15-6:30 p.m. at The Corner at CityScape (50 W. Jefferson St.), pick up a map and venture out onto the streets of Phoenix.

When you’re done, meet back at CityScape for closing ceremonies at 7 p.m., where you can win incentive awards and prizes, including gift certificates to downtown restaurants and businesses.

After the ceremony, visit a participating downtown restaurant or business and receive a discount on your bill.

This urban creative arts district has a mix of galleries, studios, boutiques and restaurants and is home to several historic neighborhoods, including Garfield, Evans Churchill, Willo, Roosevelt and Grand Avenue. Check out Made Art Boutique (922 E. Fifth St.), which features the work of more than 100 artists. It’s a great place to get a one-of-a-kind gift. You can also visit Lawn Gnome Publishing and Book Store (905 E. Fifth St.), for used books housed in a 1930s-era bungalow.

Heritage and Science Park

When making your way through Heritage Science Park, you’ll pass by the Arizona Science Center and Heritage Square, home of the historic Rosson House Museum built in 1895, as well as several other restored historic houses and buildings. Also in the park – award-winning restaurants Pizzeria Bianco and Nobuo at Teeter House. The museum is closed on Monday, so if you want to explore the inside, you’ll have to visit on another day.
