Summer is mercifully wrapping up in the Valley of the Sun, and we’re making a beeline to the fall holidays. If you’ve been sitting idly all summer and need a kickstart to get your body prepared for the onslaught of pumpkin and pecan pie, whipped cream and eggnog, there are several places around town offering free fitness classes.
Here’s five to get you moving:
CorePower Yoga
This yoga-focused studio that will open Thursday, September 24, is offering a free week of unlimited classes for beginning students. CorePower Yoga’s classes combine heat, movement and breath for a high-energy workout to music. The studio also has unheated classes. Fitness in the District
Westgate Entertainment District holds a free, weekly fitness series from 6:30-8:30 p.m. every Tuesday night starting September 22 and running through October 27 at WaterDance Plaza. There’s a rotating schedule of 90-minute Turbo Kick, P90X Live, Insanity Live, Cize Live. R.I.P.P.E.D and Zumba combo classes. Don’t be intimidated by the class names – Westgate has fitness motivators working the plaza to help attendees with moves and modifications. Check website for class schedule.

Lorna Jane Active Living
This workout-wear chain has a couple of outlets in the Valley, but only the Biltmore and Gilbert stores have “Active Living Rooms,” with exercise studios and cafes for post-workout snacks. From 9-10 a.m. on Sunday mornings through September, the Scottsdale Fashion Square branch of this national chain is holding free yoga classes taught by instructors from Mountainside Fitness.
