Breast Cancer Awareness Month Specials in the Valley

Luci's Healthy MarketplaceOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, marking the annual campaign to raise awareness of the disease that will affect 1 in 8 women in the United States in their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society.

Many Valley businesses and organizations are raising awareness and funds through a variety of programs. Here is a sampling.

During October, Bashas’ will donate 10 cents to Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center for every case of customized pink-label bottled water sold.

Jamba Juice
At Jamba Juice locations across the Valley, patrons who make a donation will receive a “Sip for Hope” pledge card and four coupons:
$1 off a fresh squeezed juice or organic cold pressed juice
$1 off any smoothie
$2 off any energy bowl
$1 off any oatmeal or baked good

Luci’s Healthy Marketplace
If you’re in the market for some pink apparel or accessories, pick up a Luci’s pink T-shirt for $8 ($2 will be donated to Singleton Moms, a nonprofit organization that supports single parents battling cancer and their minor children), or a pink tumbler for $12.99 ($2 will be donated to Singleton Moms). Luci’s will also donate $1 from every order of a Mrs. Arnie Palmer – fresh-brewed hibiscus tea mixed with local lemonade.

Even bagels have gone pink: Starting Friday, October 2, Valley Chompie's will donate a portion of sales from their rosy bread rings to Singleton Moms. They'll also be giving away bagel boxes in a social media contest to guests who post photos of pink bagels and tag Chompie's on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. The best photo each week will be rewarded with a bagel box.

Paradise Bakery
At participating locations across the Valley, Paradise Bakery will feature the Pink Ribbon Bagel adorned with dried cherries and cranberries. For each bagel sold, 25 cents will be donated to Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, an organization dedicated to identifying the causes of breast cancer.

The Phoenician
For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Phoenician’s will offer Afternoon Pink Tea. Guests will enjoy J Vineyards Rosé and the tables will be decorated with pink linens. A portion of the proceeds of the $42 Full Tea and the $60 Grand Royal Tea will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Uptown Alley
At Uptown Alley, a 60,000 square-foot family entertainment venue in Surprise, if you donate $1 to Singleton Moms, you’ll receive $2 in game play on your existing game card. They’re also offering two games of bowling plus shoes for $9, $2 of which will be donated to Singleton Moms.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Valley residents can get a discounted mammogram for $99 courtesy of MDsave, a medical service provider that offers medical procedures to consumers at discounted rates. The mammograms will be available at Abrazo Arrowhead Imaging/Radiology in Glendale. See MDsave website for more details.
