Get past the cringey name, and you’ll find that this sleek but comfy bar and lounge, attached to a restaurant of the same name, delivers on its promise of a “happier” hour thanks to expansive views of Trilogy Golf Club, a solid beer selection, clever craft cocktails and quality-driven eats. All starters are $3 off at happy hour, which means moist, meaty Buffalo wings with the usual fixings weigh in at $7.50, while a skillet of hefty meatballs, smothered in marinara and served with garlic toast, will fill you up for $7. For something lighter and healthier, consider crispy, tempura-battered Brussels sprouts dunked in house aioli ($6). Happy hour drink prices include $1 off draft beer, $1.50 off well drinks, $5 tap wines and $6 specialty cocktails and mules. Kawaii, the Japanese word for “cute,” describes an entire aesthetic built upon characters like Hello Kitty. Lucky for us, the sophisticated décor at this family-run operation is anything but kawaii. Like the regular menu, the happy hour version hedges its bets, offering straightforward sushi rolls (spicy yellowtail is worth a go, $5) as well as the occasional quasi-Chinese dish such as airy battered and fried bits of soft shell crab enlivened with five-spice ($6.95). Try the racy Screaming O – six slices of rosy, seared tuna, set on a tangle of shredded daikon and ponzu sauce ($11.95) – for a splurge. Named after a Tijuana street famed for its street food, Revolu is a modern-day taqueria with a huge center-stage bar, bargain-priced beer on tap (24 oz., $5), $5 tequila shots and $5 margaritas (strawberry, mango, watermelon, lime or jalapeño). Imaginative happy hour nibbles are arranged by price: $3 for chicharrónes and grilled, blackened corn on the cob, rubbed with mayo and sprinkled with chile powder. A fiver will buy you crispy Brussels sprouts, kicked up with bacon and tomatillo sauce. Carne asada fries come decked out with meat, queso sauce, guacamole, pico de gallo and cilantro crema ($7), while a trio of chicken, carnitas and chorizo tostadas heaped with tomato, lettuce and cilantro ($10) make an ample dinner.
