Small World

8801 N. Central Ave., Ste. 104, Phoenix

Housed in a former Sunnyslope fire station, Timo sizzles thanks to sexy upholstered furnishings, a lounge-like vibe and a cozy outdoor patio with a massive fire pit perfect for larger gatherings. Pull up a chair at the concrete bar and indulge in $4 glasses of sangria or $5 selected cocktails paired with tangy wings ($5) or spinach and artichoke dip ($8). Bruschetta is a steal at just $3 during happy hour, making for a wallet-friendly accompaniment to discount wines such as Max Mann Riesling, Girard Sauvignon Blanc or Punto Final Malbec ($5-$7 each). Corn cakes topped with salmon slices and crème fraîche are petite starters that appeal to any appetite, while adventurous diners will appreciate spicy escargot Barcelona ($7) washed down with a $22 pitcher of house sangria. 3-6 p.m. M-F; drinks only 3-6 p.m. Sa and all day Su.

Bodega 13

7202 E. Ho Rd., Carefree

The former Cellar 13 spot has been transformed into a quaint, upscale tapas bar with a cozy Spanish feel. Rustic furnishings, weathered doors and colorful accents set the stage for small plates, and the outdoor courtyard is a must-see even if sunny weather (or smoke from the neighboring cigar bar) makes the basement dining room a better bet. Happy hour at Bodega 13 is as easy as 1-2-3, with a buck off beers including Samuel Adams OctoberFest and Blue Moon Belgian White, $2 off wine and $3 off cocktails. Visitors can also score three tapas selections for $20. Pair a Paloma with couscous salad, shrimp ceviche and stuffed dates, or try the MandraRossa Pinot Grigio with the popular scallop under glass, a smoked lobster-topped mollusk that nabbed an award at the 2013 Arizona Taco Festival. 3-5:30 p.m. M-F.

Wild Vines

41111 Daisy Mountain Dr., Phoenix

Anthem may be a bit of a hike for most Valley residents, but Wild Vines makes the drive worthwhile with bargain happy hour drinks for less than five bucks. Feast on flatbread pizza ($8) paired with a $4 glass of sparkling wine, or pair Parmesan zucchini with Rolling Rock or Mirror Pond on tap ($3). The place used to lean toward the sports bar crowd, but after management and décor changes, it’s now a classy tapas joint perfect for a girls’ night out or cocktails after work. Stuffed dates ($6) and warm brie ($8) make for great date noshes, while the popular hummus and tzatziki platter ($8) comes with veggies for sharing. End the night with  $5 glasses of house Chardonnay and Merlot or a couple of Coors Lights – at just three bills each, even the smallest beer budget goes a long way here. 4-6 p.m. M-F.
