“Eat your vegetables and drink your fruit.” OK, maybe that’s not a real mom-ism, but it will strike you as a splendid idea once you taste the magenta-tinted, tart-sweet Ramble On at Crudo, a vaguely dessert-like little number that alludes to Led Zeppelin and a traditional light spring cocktail called the Bramble in the same boozy breath. Whereas the ’80s-era Bramble is made with blackberry liqueur called crème de mûre, the more complex Ramble On uses fresh blackberries and banana liqueur for a fruit-in-the-bowl experience sharpened by the bite of fresh ginger. One caveat: It goes down absurdly easily, but hey, it’s spring, and now’s the time, the time is now.
To make this slurpalicious libation at home, muddle three fresh blackberries in a cocktail shaker, then add 1 ½ oz. Mission vodka, ½ oz. Giffard banana liqueur, ¾ oz. fresh lime juice, ¼ oz. ginger syrup* and ½ oz. simple syrup. Add ice, shake and fine-strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with a blackberry and a lime wheel or wide-cut twist.
*Mix 1 cup peeled, chopped fresh ginger, 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 cup water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 5-10 minutes. Let cool to room temperature and strain out solids.
