Inspired by the Tour de France, Queen’s 1978 hit single “Bicycle Race” seemed pretty innocent with its cutesy lyrics and pop culture references. But the band caught flak for the song’s scandalous video featuring fat-bottomed girls cycling – reportedly stark naked – at a greyhound track.
Modern cycling culture may have been the inspiration behind Handlebar’s I Thought of This While Riding My Bicycle cocktail, but even so, it’s hard to avoid humming the ‘70s tune whilst swilling this tart and tangy beer cocktail, otherwise known as a “shandy.”
To make your own, pour 1 oz. Sailor Jerry rum, 1 oz. agave nectar and .5 oz. fresh lime juice into a chilled beer mug. Top with 2 oz. ginger ale and fill to the brim with Deschutes Brewing Co. Chainbreaker White IPA. Stir and garnish with a cinnamon-dusted orange wheel. It makes the rockin’ world go round.
