Everything about Scottsdale’s Hi-Fi Kitchen screams “hipper than thou,” from the vintage stereo-speaker wall to the blacklight mural depicting Abraham Lincoln in Ray-Bans to the dozen-plus “Lo-Phat” alcoholic milkshakes. Kung Fu cinephiles will especially appreciate the Drunken Monkey milkshake, inspired by the eponymous Shaolin martial art.
Start with 8-10 oz. of vanilla soft-serve in a metal mixing tumbler. Measure and pour in ¾ oz. banana vodka and ¼ oz. Frangelico, which will react with the milk proteins in the ice cream. Karate chop ¼ of a fresh banana into the mix. Whip the contents into submission with a drink mixer, or – if your kitchen isn’t quite as swank as Hi-Fi’s loaded bar – use a blender. Whipped cream and chocolate syrup deliver a final roundhouse kick.
