Arrowhead Grill
Steak
Glendale, Arizona - 8280 W. Union Hills Dr., Glendale - 623-566-2224 - $$$
Chef/owner Charles Schwerd’s dad owned a meatpacking business where he worked there from the time he was a kid. Since then, Schwerd has manned the grill for such protein peddlers as Mastro’s, Ruth’s Chris and most recently, John Elway’s Denver steakhouse. He clearly knows his product and processes, and he’s attempting to work them into the west side’s first independent steakhouse, Arrowhead Grill. The menu is tight. While steaks occupy the front burner, there are seafood options and enough hearty appetizers and big salads for picky eaters to craft a lighter meal. 4 p.m.-10 p.m., Su-Th; 4 p.m.-10 p.m., F-Sa. arrowheadgrill.com.
Bourbon Steak
Seafood/Steak
Scottsdale, Arizona - 7575 E. Princess Dr - 480-513-6002 - $$$$
This upscale resort steakhouse with sleek design elements is brought to us by Michelin-starred, James Beard award-winning owner Michael Mina, who runs two other Bourbon Steaks – one in Miami, one in Detroit – and eight other restaurants nationwide. Expect buttery, succulent, lick-the-plate steaks, like the imported Grade A5 Japanese Kobe strip-cut steak (six ounces, $175). Need to drop $3,000? Sink it into a glass of rare Remy Martin Louis XIII Black Pearl cognac. Reservations strongly recommended. 5:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m., Su-Th; 5:30 p.m.-11 p.m., F-Sa. michaelmina.net/mm_bourbonsteak_scottsdale

Steak
Phoenix, Arizona - 3101 E. Camelback Rd. - 602-955-3666 - $$$$
Gleaming wood and plush carpet, impeccable service and pricey steaks hearken back to an era of men’s clubs and old money. There are better steaks in town, but for business entertaining and making a good impression, this posh place ranks right at the top. Dinner M-Sa.
