The only sure-fire way to survive an Arizona summer is to stick close to the pool, preferably with an ice-cold cocktail or tall glass of lemonade in hand. Dress up that beverage with Rim Licks ($10), sweet-and-savory rimming mixtures created by Aaron Eckburg of Go Lb. Salt. Eckburg imports unrefined sea salts and organic, raw cane sugars infused with fruits or vegetables and blends them together to create one-of-a-kind glass rimmers.
Best-selling Bloody Mary Rim Licks is a blend of smoked sea salt and sweet onion, green chile and maple syrup-flavored sugars. Margarita flavors include the basic sweet-salty-lime Regular Rita, orange-infused Top Shelf Rita, Raspberry Rita, and the tongue-tingling, green chile-infused Santa Fe Rita. Rim Licks work as rubs and seasonings for food, too.
The trick to making these coarse seasonings stick to the glass, Eckburg says, is to wet the rim with some of the alcoholic drink and spread the Rim Licks on a napkin. Dip or roll the glass in the Rim Licks, and put the remaining salt mixture back into the container for future use.
Order online or find Eckburg and his wife, Liz, at the Gilbert Farmers’ Market on Saturdays.
