If you’re looking to get catty in the best way, the famous Acro-Cats have made a stop in Phoenix this week to strut their stuff and ring their bells.
Samantha Martin started the production and trains the cats involved in the show, which has been touring since 2009. Acro-Cats has steadily added more and more cities to the tour's route. The Acro-Cats have been featured on USA Today, TMZ, America’s Got Talent, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, among others.
Not only does the show feature the Acro-Cats, who jump hurdles, ring bells and give you a high-five at the end of all their amazing tricks, but The Rock Cats are on the road as well. This group of cats play their instruments to adoring fans at each show.
Tuna, the star of the Acro-Cats, is 13 years old and and has snow white fur and golden eyes. Martin’s inspiration for the show started once she began to train Tuna. She is as amazing at the start of the show as she jumps through hoops, as she is at the end when she lights up her “applause” sign.
All tricks aside, Martin created this show to help with real animal issues, and hopes to make her mark in changing them. The felines within the Acro-Cats and The Rock Cats are all rescued cats. Through her shows, Martin hopes to raise awareness to help orphaned, rescued and stray cats find homes as she works with rescue centers all across the country. Martin also hopes to show her audiences that cats can be trained – and should be trained, as it stimulates their minds, promotes physical activity and creates a stronger bond between cat and owner.
Martin and Tuna dropped into the PHOENIX magazine office yesterday for a little demonstration and play. Check out our Periscope video to watch the shenanigans!
