“Writing gives you the illusion of control, and then you realize it’s just an illusion, that people are going to bring their own stuff into it,” David Sedaris told the Louisville Courier-Journal in 2005. Audiences have been bringing their own stuff to the satirist’s sold-out speaking engagements for decades, but Sedaris shows no sign of relinquishing control of their amusement. He returns to the Valley on Saturday, April 30, for an 8 p.m. reading of his latest works (including his most recent book, 2013’s Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls), a Q&A session and a book signing, hosted by Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts at the Orpheum Theater, 203 W. Adams St., Phoenix. Tickets cost $29-$69. Call 480-499-8587 or visit scottsdaleperformingarts.org.
