Before you open Jeremy Jackrabbit Captures the Sun (Dandak Publishing, 2014), you get a taste of the colorful art waiting between the pages. Husband-and-wife authors Rodney and Sasha Glassman write the text (in English and Spanish) for their children’s book series, but thanks to a partnership with the Phoenix Public Library to hold illustration contests for K-8 students, all the bright drawings adorning the book’s thick, glossy pages are done by Arizona kids.
With a bold interplay of colors and poetry, the book drops you into the desert with an animal cast ready to assist Jeremy on his quest to reduce, reuse and recycle. This third Jeremy Jackrabbit book, like the first two, Jeremy Jackrabbit Harvests the Rain and Jeremy Jackrabbit Recycles the Can, will be distributed for free to every kindergartner in Maricopa County, and is also available to order through jeremyjackrabbit.com. A book release party featuring an autograph session with the student artists and a reading takes place 10 a.m. to noon April 12 at the Arizona Science Center, 600 E. Washington St., Phoenix.
