Gilbert poet Cynthia Schwartzberg Edlow’s third collection, Horn Section All Day Every Day, really sings.

Horn Section All Day Every Day (Salmon Poetry, $20)READ IT: Music, marriage, wildlife and a comic book superhero collide in Gilbert poet Cynthia Schwartzberg Edlow’s third book of poetry, Horn Section All Day Every Day (Salmon Poetry, $20). The crux of the collection is Super Dan, an extraterrestrial with old-fashioned values and childlike wonder at the workings of the world who is clearly a lightly fictionalized version of Schwartzberg Edlow’s husband, to whom she dedicates the book. The poems truly sing when they humorously and poignantly probe the domestic ties between Super Dan and his earthly wife – two polar yet complementary forces. Schwartzberg Edlow hosts a launch party for the book at Changing Hands Tempe (6428 S. McClintock Dr., Tempe, changinghands.com) on Friday, April 13, at 7 p.m.
