SEE IT: From a porcelain grenade to hatchets crafted from silk flowers, art meets armory in the exhibition ARTillery: Contemporary Art Influenced by Weaponry. More than 35 artists explore the appearance and meaning of guns, bombs, brass knuckles and other armaments in art, including street artist Shepard Fairey – known for creating the Barack Obama “Hope” poster – and actress Eve Plumb, who played Jan Brady in The Brady Bunch. Other artists with work in the show include Valley-based rocker-painter Fred Tieken, Norwegian figurative painter Odd Nerdrum, and late serial killer John Wayne Gacy. The free exhibition runs through Sunday, August 16, in the Dobson Main Gallery of Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, 1 E. Main St., Mesa, 480-644-6567, mesaartscenter.com.
