Fausto Fernandez’s vivid collages swirl together paint and portraiture.

Diving into the nature of relationships, society and identity, Fausto Fernandez’s work causes heads to contemplate after they turn to admire his art. He’s moved around a bit – he lived in the Valley for a decade before picking up a two-year residency in New Mexico, followed by a two-month sojourn up the west coast to Portland. He made his way back to the desert this summer. Fernandez’s work ranges from expansive public works like the mod, geometric floor of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport’s Sky Train Station to large paintings that follow a theme, like his “Crowds” series.
