Avert your eyes! For our fifth annual reader photo contest, titled “Illumination,” you submitted your most blindingly beautiful images of fireworks, starlit desert flora, radiant neon and – of course – that trustiest of Sonoran photo ops, the epic sunset.
Swap the sweltering Phoenix heat and desert dust for a breezy, sandy-beach-vibe at the “Queens of the Islands” tour. Islet songbirds Anuhea (pictured above) and Etana (pictured below) share top billing, and each puts a contemporary twist on traditional island music styles. Maui-born Anuhea, 29, makes contemporary Hawaiian music with a folk-rock slant, while 31-year-old Etana infuses the reggae of her native Jamaica with gospel overtones and sonic nods to artists that influenced her, including Air Supply and Dolly Parton. The show starts at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 14 at Livewire, 7340 E. Indian Plaza, Scottsdale. Tickets cost $21. Call 480-970-6980 or visit livewireaz.com.
