Chicken Kafta @ Mashawi Lebanese Grill
One of the juiciest, most fragrant kebabs in town can be found at this Lebanese pita joint, where ground chicken is mixed with garlic and enough minced fresh herbs to turn the meat bright green.

Madras Curry Pork Belly @ The Gladly
Bernie Kantak’s glorious treatment of the trendy cut – with a restrained touch of curry, creamy coconut milk, cashews and pickles – will make jaded diners reconsider that whole “pork belly has jumped the shark” refrain.
2201 E. Camelback Rd., Phoenix,

BBQ Lamb Neck @ Little Miss BBQ
Three barbecued beasts on the menu were insufficient to satisfy Scott Holmes, who conjures tender, smoky bliss from this usually tough cut of meat.

Fans of chef Peter DeRuvo were heartbroken to see him depart for Chicago when Davanti Enoteca closed up shop in 2013. But observant restaurant geeks spied him behind the counter at Pig & Pickle late last year, and true sleuths took note when the menu at one of Old Town’s favorite late-night hangouts abruptly DeRuvoized in late February. Now it’s official: DeRuvo has taken over the kitchen at Evo and is installing his own brand of bold, lusty Italian cuisine. He has added some sophisticated mains and an impressive array of antipasti, like a seared beef heart sandwich with Chicago-style giardiniera. The pastas are especially inspired, including a lightly truffled egg yolk raviolo with a saucy, carbonara-inspired condimento, and a slippery, uni-tinged tangle of delicate squid ink chitarra, gently enveloping lump crabmeat and slivered fresh chiles.
