Why did you choose bariatrics?
Performing bariatric cases early in residency, I found it to be challenging and the most post-operative-care-demanding. Witnessing patients' lives transform and watching them become happier and healthier is what made me want to dedicate my career to weight loss surgery.
What makes a person a good candidate for bariatric surgery as opposed to other weight loss methods?
There is a high population of individuals who has tried time and time again to lose weight through diet and exercise only to struggle or regain the weight back. Bariatric surgery is for those individuals who need a tool to assist them in their healthy weight loss journey.
What's the most common misconception about bariatrics?
That it is the "easy way out." This could not be further from the truth. Our patients still must pay attention to their dietary intake, and they must exercise routinely in order to be successful. We work with them to completely change their lifelong habits.
What distinguishes your practice from others?
I truly believe we are one of the most comprehensive programs in the United States. We are surgeon-owned and see all patients ourselves at every appointment. We have a staff of healthcare professionals including nurses, dietitians, exercise physiologists, and psychologists whose sole interest is the success of our patients.
