When it comes to high-end second-hand items, a stylish street in Scottsdale has it all.
Darlene Richert describes her 8,000-square-foot showroom at Avery Lane as “funkalicious.” It’s an apt adjective for her mashups of old and new – an 1800 Belgian baker’s hutch beside a contemporary Union Jack side table; Renaissance paintings above Mid-Century Modern chairs; and vintage children’s chalkboards neighboring riveted bar cabinets. “We’re going after the high-end design pieces,” Richert explains. “It was part of the market nobody was really going after.”
Since opening in February 2012, Avery Lane has become part of what Richert calls “The Loop Group” – a handful of high-end cosmopolitan consignment and resale stores along the Greenway-Hayden Loop near Scottsdale Quarter. She says Avery Lane is the only one in the area that carries antiques, but an eclectic mix of objects is also available at neighboring stores. Here’s a roundup of hot shopping spots within walking distance of each other.
Showrooms at Avery Lane include a mix of modern and classic items. The setting on the right, designed with a “Paris apartment” look in mind, features a desk from the 1700s as its focal point, along with art from the Jack and Judy Steadman estate.
