Satisfy your sweet tooth with the chewy, chocolaty, crunchy, colorful, caramely confections at these local candy shops.
Convenience store confections just don’t hold a candle to the insanely decadent, handmade Cocopotamus truffles
offered at the newly opened Candy Addict on Mill Avenue. These fudge-filled truffles are the same sinfully sweet delights that cocoa-crazed celebs were treated to at the 2011 Oscars. Irresistibly luxurious flavors such as rose water, wild ginger and cinnamon-chile are sure to make you feel like a star. Since truffles are $1.89 each ($2.29 for liqueur flavors) or $8.49 for a box of five ($10.49 for liqueur box), feel free to spoil yourself with a few worry-melting mouthfuls of dark chocolate.

Gummy bear lovers rejoice at the selection of massive gummies at It’Sugar in north Scottsdale’s newest shopping mecca, Scottsdale Quarter. Not only does the almost-too-pink sweets palace sell the world’s largest gummy bear, which weighs in at 5 pounds and costs $35, it also sells them in $20 cereal boxes or as jaw-exhausting lollipops for $7. If you’re looking for more flavor from your chewy delights, the upscale shop also offers massive jelly bean dispensers, individually separated to keep all those buttered popcorn pieces out ($13 per pound). And if all of that isn’t sugary enough, try insulin.

The Valley’s queen of adorable boutiques, Georganne Bryant, opened this kitschy candy shack right next to her quirky clothing shop, Frances, off Camelback Road and Central Avenue in 2009. Since then, CenPho-ers have had to run, not walk, to the dentist after repeat sweets visits. While the candy-apple red and bright blue shop has all the sugary nostalgia you could ask for, its real winners are the handmade treats, such as Goodytwos toffee (6-ounce bag, $12) and Whimsical Candy’s swirling confection of sea salt caramel, white chocolate and nougat perfection known as the La-Dee-Dah ($2.25).

Sweeties Candy of Arizona
Willy Wonka ain’t got nothin’ on Sweeties Candy of Arizona – the largest candy store in the state. Admittedly, this treats emporium looks more like a warehouse than a quaint boutique, but if you’re looking to buy candy by the ton, you’ve found the right place. This family-owned-and-operated shop also specializes in little saccharine trips down memory lane, courtesy of marshmallow ice cream cones (40 cents each), Bosco chocolate ($2.59 per bar), candy cigarettes (50 cents per pack) and just about anything else you can dream up (if it’s still in production).
