Arizona’s early years were defined by the five Cs: copper, cattle, cotton, citrus and climate. The Wigwam Resort (now simply The Wigwam) bloomed out of two – cotton and climate. The area was originally a 16,000-acre cotton ranch owned by Goodyear Tire & Rubber, which used the fluffy stuff to prolong tire life. Visiting ranch suppliers and Goodyear executives and their wives suggested it would be a prime place for a winter getaway, and the Wigwam opened on Thanksgiving Day, 1929. Celebrate its 83rd birthday and bask in holiday decor at the decked-out indoor/outdoor Wigwam Bar.
