7293 N. Scottsdale Rd.,
Scottsdale (other location in Gilbert)
Uptown in more ways than one, Blue 32 is a sports bar with pizzazz. Forty screens mean you never have to crane your neck to see the score, and a blingy bar and smart artwork replace dusty sports memorabilia and neon beer signs. Happy hour includes $3 pints, $4 craft beers, well drinks and select cocktails including margaritas, $4.50 house wines and Guinness, $5 specialty martinis, and an appetizer list that covers all the bases, including onion rings or chips and queso for $3.75, and buffalo shrimp, boneless wings or calamari for $5.75. 3-7 p.m. M-F.
13375 W. McDowell Rd., Goodyear (other locations in Chandler,
Phoenix and Scottsdale)
Former Suns swingman (and current assistant coach) Dan Majerle scored such a slam dunk with his first sports bar in Downtown Phoenix that he opened three more, including this sharp-looking Goodyear location. Even if there’s no game on the 20 flat screens or three big screens, this spacious venue is a winner, thanks to friendly service and above-par food. Try $5 nachos, cheeseburger sliders, spinach queso dip, boneless wings, potato skins and chicken strips. Drink specials include $2.50 domestic drafts, $3.50 import drafts, $3 house wines and well liquor, and $3.50 on selected liquors, including Jack Daniels and Captain Morgan. 3-7 p.m. and 10 p.m. to close daily.
Tom’s Tavern & 1929 Grill
2 N. Central Ave., Phoenix
When Arizona Cardinals executive Michael Bidwill and family bought this Downtown landmark and spiffed it up, they merged sporty with swanky (think wood floors, dozens of historic photos and six flat screen TVs). It’s a refined, genteel place for getting your game fix – more “ooh-ahh” than “rah-rah.” Get $5 select appetizers (try the smoky BBQ sliders and house-made bacon-wrapped chicken poppers), $4 house wine and premium drafts, $3 Bud Light drafts, $2 house shots and $1 off premium and signature cocktails and wines by the glass. 2-6:30 p.m. M-Sa.
